Dear Sun Spots: Some time ago, I saw an ad by someone offering to come to one’s home for hair care. If possible, please locate them and print the name and telephone number. I also saw an ad from someone offering to cook meals at her home and deliver them to people. Could you locate that person to discover if she is still in business? Thank you very much. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots was unable to locate anyone locally who will come to your home for hair care. Unfortunately, the few people we know who provide this service have many clients and would be unable to accept any more at this time. Hopefully, our readers will know of someone who can help; we urge you to write in to Sun Spots with information.

Dear Sun Spots: I have had leaks from my chimney onto my carpet and it has left stains that I can’t get out. Have you any suggestions as to what to use? – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Sun Spots spoke with Roland Castonguay at RCCM Cleaning Services in Jay. He suggests trying a carpet cleaning product that contains citrus. These products tend to be very good at removing soot and rusty water stains. You should be able to find citrus cleaning products at local retailers, such as Wal-Mart, KMart and Hannaford. Follow the specific instructions on the cleaning product. He also recommends using a rug cleaner to clean your carpet after you have removed the stain. They would be happy to help you with professional service. You may reach RCCM Cleaning Services for more information at 897-2083 or call 364-7911 for the answering service.

Roger Soucy Jr. from PuroClean Water, Mold, and Fire Damage Specialists in Livermore Falls said he would need to know exactly what is causing the staining before advising. It could be several things such as soot, dirty water or creosote. How long has it been stained? What type of fiber is the carpet? Has anyone tried cleaning it yet? This could set the stain in the carpet if it’s not cleaned professionally. They would pretreat the area before cleaning, and depending on what caused the stain, how long it has been there and if anyone has tried cleaning it would determine how successful they would be in removing it. PuroClean may be reached at 1-888-577-3737 or 897-3737.
