I am writing to urge the residents of Turner to vote “no” on Article 6 on April 5, an article which, if approved, would dissolve the Turner Center for the Arts.
I graduated from that fine old building in 1952, and in the last two years have experienced great pride and pleasure in exhibiting my work there, as well as volunteering, taking classes, plein aire painting, attending critique nights and getting to know other artists from around the state.
The facility offers a great opportunity, not only for the artists, but for the schoolchildren and visitors of all ages who come to tour the art center and appreciate the many different aspects of art.
The facility is one of the finest art centers in the state, and if dissolved, will be a great loss to the town of Turner, as well as more than 100 artists who are active participants.
