My parents have told me that all this snow means we are having a good ol’ Maine winter and that the last few winters have been mild. The skiers and snowboarders love all this snow we are getting. But schools have run out of snow days. Every snow day means another day in June–maybe even July at this rate.
Snow days are a blessing to students. It is a chance to rest, to do homework that was due that day or the next day. Most will get chores done that have been put off due to homework and other school events. Some may work on their own projects.
But this blessing has become a curse. Every snow day means more snow, and more time in school during the summer months when the days get longer and hotter. Right now summer vacation seems so close and yet so far away. It means a shorter summer than normal and an even shorter summer for those who may have to take summer school.
