JAY – A Jay man is accused of fraudulently using stolen credit card numbers on six different occasions between Dec. 17, 2007, and Jan. 3 to get more than $2,700. Three others face charges in the case, police said.
Jay police Detective Drew Hufnagel arrested Patrick S. Ridley, 20, on Tuesday on charges of forgery and unauthorized taking, Hufnagel said Wednesday. He was released on $250 cash bail the same day from the Franklin County jail in Farmington
Ridley is accused of gaining access to a Kingfield senior citizen’s credit card numbers and using them at the Jay Kenoco gas station to obtain the $2,700-plus, Hufnagel said.
The senior citizen died before the case could be resolved, the detective said.
Ridley, a former Kenoco employee, did not gain access to the credit card numbers through his work at the gas station, Hufnagel said.
The investigation is ongoing, he said, and declined to release details on how the numbers were gained.
“During each transaction, a Kenoco employee was present and knowingly allowed Patrick Ridley to enter the numbers,” Hufnagel said. “Ridley would then sign the receipt before a Kenoco employee removed the funds from the register.”
Three employees saw Ridley use the card at different times and now face charges under the accomplice liability law for allowing the fraudulent activity to take place, Hufnagel said.
Hufnagel said Brandon Gray, 24, of Wilton, Sean Pratt, 21, of Dixfield, and Ralph Metcalf, 29, of Jay were charged by summons Wednesday for theft by unauthorized taking under the accomplice law.
“There are two victims of this crime: The owner of the credit card, an elderly woman from the Kingfield area who has since passed away, and the Kenoco Fuel Co.,” Hufnagel said.
A representative of Kenoco Fuel Co. was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
