GRAY – A University of Maine Cooperative Extension tractor safety course will be held on five consecutive Tuesdays, starting April 22, at the Maine Forest Service Building on Route 26.

The course has an easy-to-read manual, and participants’ driving skills and knowledge will be tested using tests developed by the University of Maine and Pennsylvania State University.

“Many of the accidents on farms involve tractors and farm machinery,” said Richard Brzozowski of the Cumberland County Extension. “Every farm worker needs to develop good skills and a good safety attitude. This course helps them do just that.”

Individuals will receive practical training in the classroom, in the shop and on tractors. Participants should be at least age 13 to receive credit for the certified course. Adults are welcome.

More information is available from the Cumberland County Extension at 1-800-287-1471 or www.umext.maine.edu. Registration is required, and space is limited to 25 participants. The fee is $10 a person.
