School referendums pass

Voters approved two referendum questions, agreeing to authorize the School Committee to contract with Freeport for school privileges at Freeport High School in grades 9-12 for a period of two to 10 years, voting 168 in favor and 123 opposed.

The second question, a “Town of Durham Secondary School Tuition and Transportation Policy,” which was contingent upon voters accepting the first question, was approved by 176 -111. This authorizes the town to continue paying tuition and provide the most economical form of transportation for qualifying students who reside in Durham and attend other state approved high schools through the 2012-13 school year. This also includes state approved private schools with certain stipulations. Durham has no high school.
