BANGOR (AP) – Aroostook County, already home to New England’s largest wind farm, is being eyed by a Texas company for several more of the energy-producing facilities.
Horizon Wind Energy envisions up to 400 turbines in farm fields and forests of the northern Maine county. Company officials say they are focusing on a forested area west of Bridgewater.
They are not discussing other locations under consideration, but say most of them are farm or forested sites in eastern Aroostook. Horizon, which operates wind farms in five other states, has not submitted any applications with Maine regulators.
A utility-grade wind farm on Aroostook County’s Mars Hill Mountain has been generating power for more than a year. In Washington County, a major wind farm’s under construction on Stetson Mountain.
