LEWISTON – Tuberculosis (TB) and avian flu are ancient diseases that have surfaced as threats to world health in recent years.
Dr. Ahmad Halawa and Dr. Nedaa Skeik of Sabattus Street Internal Medicine will give a presentation on the diseases at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave.
They will discuss how to protect against the diseases and how to prepare for a potential outbreak.
Nearly 2 billion people worldwide are infected with TB and 2 million will die from TB-related illnesses.
The spread of avian or bird flu is quite common among birds, chicken and other fowl.
The current outbreak, known as H5N1, is highly contagious among birds and can be transmitted to humans, causing severe illness and possibly death.
