An escaped Massachusetts fugitive with connections to Franklin County was arrested Monday afternoon in Westport, Mass., just miles from the hospital he’d fled two weeks ago.

Last week, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department joined in the search for Anthony Flye, 38, of Swansea and Nantucket, Mass. Flye, who was charged with child rape, incest and indecent assault and battery on a disabled person, now faces a count of escape as well. His bail was set at $1 million.

Flye had worked in Franklin County as a foreman for a contractor who owns property in Farmington and Industry. Besides Franklin County, police officers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts were looking for Flye in other areas familiar to the fugitive.

On March 25, Flye leapt from a second story balcony railing at the Bristol County Superior Court onto the first floor, injuring himself. He was brought to the hospital, where a security guard accompanying him unlocked his handcuffs.

Flye then went to the bathroom and slipped out of the building.

Massachusetts State Police troopers arrested Flye about 2:15 p.m. Monday as he was walking under an overpass in Westport. A U.S. marshal had reported a man matching Frye’s description hitchhiking in the area. According to a prosecutor at Monday’s hearing, Frye was carrying more than $800 when he was arrested.
