4-H auction

PARIS – A 4-H ticket auction will be held Saturday, April 12, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and the auction will be at 6. There are donated gift certificates, homemade items, baked good and gift baskets. There will be a food booth. All proceeds will benefit the Oxford County 4-H Beef and Sheep Club.

Tent installs

EAST STONEHAM – The Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, met March 26 at the home of Marilyn Jones, Norway, when installation of officers was held. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the K of P Hall, East Stoneham. Bring a bag lunch. Annual reports will be made out during the meeting.

Granges to meet

WOODSTOCK – Oxford Pomona and Androscoggin Pomona Granges will hold a Degree Day at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Franklin Grange. All four degrees will be worked by Master Wayne Sherman of Wales Grange and his suite of officers.

A light luncheon will be served for a small sum between the second and third degrees. Any grange in the area that has potential candidates is welcome to bring them at that time. For more information, call Sherman at 375-8842.

Women’s lunch

PARIS – The Christian Women United will meet Tuesday, April 15, at the First Congregational Church. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Fannie Angel of Dixfield. She will provide entertainment on keyboard and sing.

Fundraiser set

PARIS – McDonald’s of Paris is hosting a fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Project Graduation Committee to help put on the annual graduation party. Beekeepers meeting

PARIS – The Western Maine Beekeepers Association will present a slide show and talk by State Apiarist Tony Jadczak on honey bee pests, diseases and medications. The presentation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill.

Beekeepers need to be aware of current treatment methods and medications to ensure the survival of their honey bees. All area beekeepers are invited to the free presentation.

Sale extended

PARIS – The Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District is extending the sale for the following fir trees until Friday, April 18: Frasier Fir (10/$20), Colorado Blue Spruce (10/$18), Norway Spruce (10/$20), American Arborvitae (10/$20), White Pine (10/$19) and White Spruce (10/$19).

Tree pick-up will be Friday, April 25. If interested, contact Heather at 743-5789, ext. 109. Rainbow and brook trout will be available until Monday, May 12. Fish pick-up will be Thursday, May 15.

Museum hours

WOODSTOCK – The Woodstock Historical Society Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, June through August. It specializes in local memorabilia, art and antiques. Also included are a research library and small gift shop.

New exhibits include a Duncan Phyfe dining table and mahogany chest. Framed photos of Sunday River Skiway and Bethel’s snowwoman will represent the recent long winter. Fresh looks include a first edition, out-of-print biography and a Malcolm Cowley work on old age. A model car and a picture of Windsor Castle have also been added.

Potluck supper

WATERFORD – The Wilkins Community House, Plummer Hill Road, will hold a community potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17. All are welcome to bring a friend and a dish to share.

Community suppers are held each month October through May. The hosts for this supper are Ginny Lou and Denny Raymond.
