AUGUSTA (AP) – Gov. John Baldacci will appeal the government’s denial of emergency assistance for expenses from the March snowstorm in northern Maine.

Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, R-Maine, say they will support the governor’s appeal of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s denial.

Snowe says the record snowfall March 19-22 had disastrous effects on Aroostook County’s infrastructure.

Snowe says roofs collapsed, roads iced up and homes were swallowed by massive drifts.

Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, says the denial demonstrates the inability of the federal government to respond to disaster situations within a timeframe that matters.
