NORWAY – The Oxford Hills area annually observes the National Day of Prayer. This year, people from around the region will gather at the Church of the Nazarene for the event.

The National Day of Prayer is always the first Thursday of May. Congress created the annual call to prayer in 1951.

The Oxford Hills location rotates from year to year. Several churches have hosted the 7 p.m. event, and May 1 marks the first time for the Norway Church of the Nazarene and Pastor Shawn Emerson.

There is also an annual event at Oxford County Jail for those who attend chaplain Dallas Henry’s Thursday afternoon meetings.

There are always major gatherings in Washington, D.C. In Augusta, there is a noon gathering every year, either in Capital Park or in the Hall of Flags.

All are invited. The church is located on Grove Street. Call pastor Eric Hanson, NDP county coordinator, at 539-2295 days or 890-5979 evenings for more information.
