Dear Sun Spots: This letter is in response to an article that you placed in the March 31 Sun Spots.

You had someone who is looking for a person offering to come to one’s home for hair care.

A good friend of mine, M. Knight, might be able to help that particular individual out. Ms. Knight is a licensed barber/beautician and is possibly willing to travel. But because of her awkward schedule, it would be best to contact her prior to printing this.

I do hope that this letter can be of some help to the individual looking for in home hair care. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots thanks you for the helpful information. We spoke with Maralee Knight, and she is willing to travel in the Lewiston/Auburn area to provide hair care. Readers in need of this service may contact her at 689-4689 to make arrangements.

Dear Sun Spots: We have a cat that eats only Tender Vittles, which is a soft cat food, and which is no longer available. I wonder if anyone is aware of any other soft cat food (not canned food). Also, if anyone knows how to soften the regular dry cat food other than soaking it in water. We will greatly appreciate any suggestions from your readers. – C.A.L., Auburn

Answer:
According to a representative at Nestle-Purina consumer affairs, Tender Vittles was discontinued in January 2007. At this time, they do not make anything similar. Wendy Tremblay at Pet Quarters in Auburn suggests trying Pure Bites all natural freeze-dried chicken, which has a soft consistency. They are actually dog treats, but her cats, who were also fans of Tender Vittles, love them. You may purchase them at Pet Quarters, 600 Center St, Auburn. She also recommends We Pity the Kitties cat treats, sold by Three Dog Bakery. They are available for $4.95 on the Web site, www.threedog.com and come in chicken or salmon flavors. You may also consider contacting your veterinarian for other suggestions.

The only recommendation we have received to soften dry cat food, besides using water, is to use low sodium chicken broth. Other cat lovers out there may have more suggestions for you.

Dear Sun Spots: Townehouse at 74 Lake Auburn Ave., Auburn, is having its yearly spring fling, which is a fundraiser for our Tenants Association. This event will have many items of interest: a bake sale, raffles, hot dog sale and our rummage sale of books, puzzles, crafts, jewelry and many other items.

This will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in our community room.

Also, with the help of our Sun Spots readers, friends and neighbors, we are looking for good DVD or VCR movies that are no longer being used.

We’re interested in donations for our library, and we also are interested in passing them to other elderly and disabled buildings for all to enjoy. Please phone Sue at 782-5086. – Sue, Auburn.
