PHILLIPS – Prior to the start of Saturday’s annual town meeting, state Rep. Thomas Saviello, an independent from Wilton, presented legislative sentiments honoring two of the town’s native sons.
He first recognized Corydon C. Hardy, a 23-year naval aviator and veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, who served several terms as selectman, assessor and town constable.
Hardy was also employed by SAD 58 as a substitute teacher, GED instructor and bus driver, was the founding member and flight instructor for the Sandy River Flying Club, and was involved with several organizations.
Hardy’s son accepted the honor on behalf of his father, who passed away last June. A tribute to Hardy was placed in the town report.
Next, Saviello recognized Road Commissioner Steve Haines, to whom the town report was dedicated. Haines served as road commissioner for 24 years, retiring on March 31. Voters gave Haines a standing ovation.
