LEWISTON – Thomas College scored seven runs in the final two innings to post an 8-7 win over Bates.
The Terriers (7-7) went ahead in the eighth inning on a three-run homer by Nicholas Cloutier. Jared Fieldsent smacked a three-run homer as well in the top of the ninth to follow an RBI single by Michael Busa. Andrew Martin earned the win for Thomas, striking out nine total.
Bates (4-12) own Brian Buckley drove in two runs off a sharp single, Denis Hogan went 2-5 with a pair of runs and an RBI, while Casey McCormack and Erik Hood both had a hit, a run, and an RBI.
St. Joe’s 13, Husson 4
WATERVILLE – Pat Moran had three-run triple to lead St. Joe’s to a 13-4 win over Husson Monday evening in college baseball action. Luke Eman, Ben Grant-Roy, and Eric Labatte each ad two RBI’s a piece for the Monks as well. For the Husson effort, Jeff Miller hit a triple and had an RBI, while Dennis Graha had two hits.
Softball
UMF sweep Bates
LEWISTON – The University of Maine at Farmington swept a softball doubleheader at Bates College taking the first game 3-2, and winning 7-3 in the second game.
UMF (5-0) pitchers Sarah Defilipp and Liz Bergeron each raised their records to 3-0 with complete-game performances. In game one, McKell Barnes hit a homer for the Beavers, while Lauren Overlock went 2-2 with two runs. For the Bates (3-11) effort, Carlen Arima and Liz Stahler each had a pair of hits. In Game 2, Megan Goodrow went 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Overlock went 2-4 with a pair of runs. Bates’ Val Beckwith went 3-4 with an RBI.
Women’s Lacrosse
Bates 20, USM 5
GORHAM – Molly Dilworth scored a team-high four goals to lead Bates College to a 20-5 win over the University of Southern Maine Monday.
After falling behind early to the Huskies (4-7) , Bates rattled off five straight goals, including a pair from Dilworth, to take control of the contest. Bates led Southern Maine 9-3 at the half. Molly Wagner, Molly Radis, and Briana Gross each tallied three goals a piece for the Bobcats (5-5).
Keeper Mary Krueger made seven saves in the win.
Justene Dorr led the Southern Maine effort with three goals, while Kristy Kendrick and Mary Vaughan rounded out the scoring for the Huskies.
