In 2007, the giant motion picture, Across the Universe was released. This is a musical filled with renowned songs from the 1960’s rock group, the Beatles. The movie is about a dock worker named Jude who travels to America in the 1960s, in search of his father, a veteran from the Vietnam war, and now a janitor at Princeton University.
During the search for his father, Jude runs into a soon to be friend, named Max. After he meets his father, who doesn’t care that he has a son, he hangs around for a little while, and in the meantime, becomes great friends with Max. Max, who is tired of school, decides to drop out, and go to New York with Jude, where they rent an apartment from the landlord, Sadie. Later two more people arrive at the apartment, Prudence, a cheerleader who came from Ohio because of relationship issues, and Jo-Jo, an extremely talented guitarist seeking a job or a gig. He later plays with Sadie and her band.
Lucy, a sheltered girl from a rich family and Max’s brother, decides to go to New York to live with Max, and in the meantime, falls in love with Jude. There is also a cameo by the Irish singer, BONO, who plays Dr. Robert, and goes on a wild bus ride while singing “I am the Walrus.” There are also numerous references to the songs from the characters. This is an amazing movie, and brings back all of the great Beatles songs.
This is a must-see!
