On March 18, Oak Hill High School competed for the Future Business Leaders of America State Championship title. Oak Hill received 1st place in the state. The competitions were part of the 2007-2008 FBLA State Leadership Conference held annually at the Wyndham Hotel in South Portland.

Oak Hill’s FBLA Chapter received a total of 40 awards. The following are the members who placed in the individual events: Emily Sabine, 1st Scrapbook, and Word Processing II; April Deemer 1st Local Chapter Report; Lindsay Heald 1st Business Communication, 2nd Public Speaking II; Hannah Rancourt, 1st Business Law, Word Processing I; Kyle Emmons, 1st Business Math; Sam Wark, 1st Client Services, and 2nd Career Portfolio; Katherine Bartos, 1st FBLA Principles and Procedures; Matthew Rodney 1st Future Business Leader; Casey Gonzales 1st Impromptu Speaking; Brett Turcotte 1st Introduction to Technology Concepts; Maggie Sabine, 1st Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures; Ian Bouffard 1st Public Speaking I and 3rd FBLA Principles and Procedures; Drew Janelle, 2nd Promotion Award; Jenna Camardese 2nd Accounting I; Dan Fontaine 2nd Business Calculations; Andy Damon 2nd Computer Applications and Help Desk; Kim Hinkley 2nd Job Interview; Tony Vattaso 2nd Personal Finance; Sara Lacroix 2nd Word Processing I; Eric Vattaso, 3rd Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures; and Lindsay Glazier, 3rd Parliamentary Procedures.

Bouffard 1st Business Plan; Lindsay Heald, Casey Gonzales, and Andy Damon, 1st Digital Video Production; Brett Turcotte, Kyle Emmons and Lynnae Chaput 1st in Web Site Development; Chelsey Turcotte, Casey Gonzales, Maggie O’Connell, Ambyr Provost, Ashley Beauparlant, and Abby Goulet, 1st Door Decorating; Chelsey Turcotte and Jenna Camardese, 2nd Business Presentation; Brittany Wood and Katherine Bartos, 2nd Community Service Project; Chelsey Turcotte and Andy Damon 2nd Desktop Publishing; Sam Wark and Tony Vattaso, 2nd Emerging Business Issues; Jenna Camardese, Dan Fontaine, and A.J. Bouffard, 2nd Entrepreneurship; Matthew Rodney, Jenna Camardese and Kim Hinkley, 2nd Global Business; Drew Janelle, Kim Hinkley and Hannah Rancourt, 2nd in Management Decision Making; and Jenna Camardese, Kim Hinkley and Josh Sirois, 3rd Business Ethics.

This year Oak Hill had three members running for a state office. Ken Bergeron ran for State Historian, Maggie O’Connell ran for State Secretary, and Josh Sirois ran for State Treasurer. Along with the competitions, these three had to give a speech and take part in caucusing procedures. All three members were elected to the positions they ran for.

In addition to participating in comepetitive events, the members had the opportunity to attend leadership and motivational sessions. These sessions covered topics such as Professional Interviewing, Credit Card Safety, What Your Penmanship Says about Your Personality, and Business at USM. Ted Finn was the Keynote speaker for the conference. His presentation was about “Leadership in Action”,” and how he became a leader through his own personal struggles. His presentation was interactive, fun, and informational for everyone.

Oak Hill’s FBLA chapter would like to thank their two advisors Erlene Allen and Angela Roy for the time and dedication they put into preparing us all of the competitions, and pushing us to do our best.
