GORHAM – Southern Maine scored in each of its first four innings to take an 8-0 lead en route to a 12-1 victory over Bowdoin in college baseball.

Bowdoin committed six errors, and Southern Maine (16-7) smacked 16 hits. Matt Ruane and Brendan Garner had two hits apiece for the Polar Bears (11-11).

Softball

Maine 1, Colby 0

ORONO – Whitney Spangler hit an RBI single in the first inning giving Maine the only run of the game to post the 1-0 victory over Colby.

Ashley Waters added a double, while Alexis Souhlaris, Kristen Calvetti, and Stephanie George each had hits in the game for the Black Bears (6-34).

St. Joseph’s sweeps Daniel Webster

STANDISH – Jillian Kimball knocked in three runs in the opener to help power St. Joseph’s to a 13-5 and 2-0 sweep of a softball doubleheader against Daniel Webster.

In the opener, Aly Ludwig added a double and two RBIs. Kiera Walsh was the winning pitcher. For Daniel Webster, both Erin Hurd and Erin Mosely hit doubles.

Renee Leach had the only RBI for the Monks (17-9) in the second game. Liddy VanderLinden had two hits.

Bowdoin sweeps UMF

BRUNSWICK – The Bowdoin softball team swept the University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader, 6-0 and 10-5.

Julia Jacobs tossed a four hitter for the shut out in the opener. Bowdoin had 12 hits, scoring twice in the first inning on RBI singles from Alison Coleman and Lauren Coven.

The Polar Bears (19-7) never trailed in the nightcap, scoring four unearned runs in the first inning and taking advantage of eight Farmington (6-2) errors. Clare Ronan had a pair of hits, including a grand slam in the sixth.

Bates 7, Thomas 3

LEWISTON – Christina Knobel notched a complete-game victory as Bates topped Thomas 7-3.

Leah Citrin smacked a three-run homer in the first inning to help propel the Bobcats (4-12) to their win. Stacia Saniuk and Val Beckwith each hit RBI doubles.

Thomas (8-7) was paced by Sarah Estes and Nicole Chinnock, who had six of the Terriers’ eight hits.
