BERLIN, N.H. – The Coos County Family Health Services board of directors has announced that Judy Rheaume of Gorham has been selected as the recipient of the 2008 Sylvia Evans Citizenship Award.
The award is presented annually to a woman in the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the well being of women and families in the North Country.
In a letter of nomination, Nancy and Walter Wintturi stated, “Judy has contributed many volunteer hours to the St. Kieran Community Center for Arts, serving as a member of the board of directors and as a director of the ecumenical food pantry located at the St. Vincent De Paul Center.
“We are moved to submit this nomination after seeing first hand how many hours Judy has contributed to the food pantry. When Judy first started the job of the director of the food pantry it operated out of one tiny room. It has now expanded to two rooms, one to store extra food and one to serve its clients. Families may visit the pantry once a month to supplement their food stocks.”
Since 2000 Rheaume has served on the center board of directors. For more than 25 years she has helped raise funds for the Community Concert Series and more recently for the Center for Arts.
Rheaume will receive her award at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the White Mountains Community College. The public is invited. RSVP at 752-3669, ext. 4014, by Friday, April 18.
