FARMINGTON – Thirty-six people were indicted Wednesday by a Franklin County grand jury on a total of 81 charges.

Among them were a New Hampshire man accused of 15 burglaries in Maine, a Massachusetts man accused of leaving a fatal accident scene, and a Bath man accused of robbing a Farmington bank.

Melvin L. “Grumpy” Vitko, 51, of Milford, N.H., was indicted on two counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and one count each of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking in two different cases for violations on Feb. 6 and Feb. 20.

Vitko, a transient, had formerly lived in Florida but had been in Maine since December. He has been held on $50,000 cash bail or $200,000 worth of property after police say he admitted to committing 15 burglaries in Maine, including in Byron. In the latter case, he was accused of stealing five guns from a Byron camp on Feb. 12. All guns were recovered.

Vitko remains at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.

Domingos Medeiros, 49, of Assonet, Mass., was indicted on a count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that killed a New Portland man Jan. 16 after 12-foot beams fell from a trailer Medeiros’ truck was hauling on Route 27 in New Vineyard.

Stephen McKenney died after the wood fell onto the car he was driving, police said.

Medeiros’ attorney previously said his client was unaware the wood had fallen. Medeiros learned about the fatal accident the next day after he had returned to Massachusetts, defense attorney Walt McKee said earlier this year.

Medeiros, who turned himself in, was bailed on $3,000 cash.

In another case, Kevin E. Lunn, 38, of Bath, was indicted on a count of robbery stemming from a Dec. 12, 2007, robbery of an undisclosed amount of money at TD BankNorth on Broadway in Farmington.

Lunn turned himself in to Sagadahoc County officials in March after he learned that a warrant was issued for his arrest. He remains held on $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 surety at the Franklin County jail.
