DALLAS – Jason Kidd had the 100th triple-double of his career and sparked a 30-8 stretch that sent the Dallas Mavericks past the New Orleans Hornets, 111-98 Wednesday night, and set up a first-round showdown between these teams.

Kidd had 27 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his first triple-double since rejoining the Mavericks, the team he was with when he broke into the NBA and began piling up the stats. He already was No. 3 on the career list, behind Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson, but now he has joined them in triple-figure, triple-doubles.

New Orleans came in locked into the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, but Dallas – which was coming off consecutive losses to lottery-bound teams – needed a victory to clinch the seventh seed. A loss by the Mavericks and a win by Denver later Wednesday would’ve meant a first-round series between the Hornets and Nuggets, with Dallas facing the Los Angeles Lakers.

Heat 113, Hawks 99

MIAMI – If this was Pat Riley’s final game, it was a victorious one. Jason Williams scored 17 points, Mark Blount and Daequan Cook each added 16 and the Heat ended their disappointing season with a 113-99 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.

Miami finished 15-67, matching the 1988-89 expansion team for the worst record in franchise history.

Pacers 132, Knicks 123

INDIANAPOLIS – Mike Dunleavy tied a career high with 36 points, and the Indiana Pacers beat New York 132-123 on Wednesday night, sending the Knicks to a franchise record-tying 59th loss in what might have been Isiah Thomas’ last game as coach.

New Knicks president Donnie Walsh hasn’t promised Thomas he’ll keep his job, and Thomas gave Walsh another reason to fire him. The Knicks allowed their highest point total of the season.

Pistons 84, Cavaliers 74

CLEVELAND – LeBron James rested his back – and sat on his scoring title.

Cleveland’s All-Star forward spent the final game of the regular season in street clothes Wednesday night, resting up for the NBA playoffs and watching Detroit’s reserves outplay Cleveland’s bench players as the Pistons beat the Cavaliers 84-74.

Rookie Aaron Afflalo scored 15 points, Jason Maxiell had 13 and Rodney Stuckey 12 for the Pistons, who will meet the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round starting Sunday.

Wally Szczerbiak, who has struggled to find his shooting touch since coming to Cleveland in a trade, scored 18 points to pace the Cavaliers. Delonte West, another of the newer Cavaliers, added 11 points and Dwyane Jones had 10 rebounds.

Magic 103, Wizards 83

ORLANDO, Fla. – J.J. Redick scored a career-high 18 points and Marcin Gortat had a career-high 12 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Orlando Magic to a 103-83 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night in a meaningless regular-season finale for two playoff-bound teams.

Andray Blatche led Washington with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Nick Young scored 14.

Darius Songaila, Roger Mason and Oleksiy Pecherov each scored 10 points for the Wizards, and Pecherov had a career-high 10 rebounds.

Both teams rested their stars. Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison didn’t play at all for the Wizards, and Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy pulled Dwight Howard after the first quarter, then Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu at halftime.

Wolves 110, Bucks 101

MINNEAPOLIS – Randy Foye scored 10 of his career-high 32 points in overtime to help the Minnesota Timberwolves finish a forgettable regular season on a winning note, 110-101 over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday.

In what might have been the end of Larry Krystkowiak’s only full season as coach, the Bucks blew a 16-point third-quarter lead and let Foye and the Wolves blow by them in extra time. Milwaukee (26-56) closed by losing eight straight and 12 of 14.

DENVER – Carmelo Anthony scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in his first game since getting arrested on a drunken driving charge, and the Denver Nuggets reached 50 wins for the first time in 20 years with a 120-111 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
