WILTON – Selectmen voted Tuesday to accept the low bid from a Portland company to produce 1,000 annual town reports, Town Manager Peter Nielsen said Wednesday.
Four bids were received from three companies, he said.
Xpress of Maine was awarded the contract for its bid of $1,400, Nielsen said.
Wilton Printed Products bid $1,795 and Printing Warehouse in Wilton bid $1,600 for a 6-by-9-inch formatted book and $1,750 for an 8-by-11-inch format, he said.
Selectmen also received seven bids for cemetery and mowing care.
The board also directed Nielsen to check the references of the three lowest bidders before a three-year contract is awarded.
The town received word late that the person who had the cemetery and mowing contract last year was unable to complete the third year, the town manager said.
The three lowest bidders were Michael Webber for $13,000 each of the three years; John Ranger for $19,500 the first year, $20,500 the second year, and $21,000 the third year; and T&T Lawn Care for $21,000 the first year, $21,500 in the second year, and $22,000 the third year, Nielsen said.
Selectmen were also notified by police Chief Dennis Brown that Steve Brown, no relation, would be assisting the department in answering the phones at the Public Safety Station. The current office assistant, Tiffany White, is going to have a baby and will be working some of her hours and Brown will help with the rest, Nielsen said.
The board also opted to seek legal advice in an executive session on May 6 before it decides what direction to take on final payment to an assessing firm that revaluated property in town.
