RUMFORD – Rumford Group Homes Inc. has announced the availability of the Joyce B. Roy Scholarships for two local high school students who are seeking post-secondary education. Rumford Group Homes will award one $500 scholarship to a Mountain Valley High School Senior and one $500 scholarship to a Dirigo High School Senior.
Alan J. Monier, executive director, said, “We are pleased to continue our tradition of offering scholarships to students who wish to continue their education in the helping profession and want to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Rumford Group Homes has offered a scholarship award to an eligible senior at Mountain Valley High School for the last five years. Last year the board of directors voted to expand the opportunity to include SAD 21, specifically seniors at Dirigo High School.
“These scholarships are intended to honor the memory of Joyce B. Roy, who was one of the founding board members of Rumford Group Homes Inc.,” said Nicholas Waugh, president of the board of directors. “Mrs. Roy was dedicated to the mission of serving children, adolescents and families and helping them improve their futures,” he said.
Last year’s recipients were Kristen Chenard, Mountain Valley High School, and Heather Stone, Dirigo High School.
Scholarships are open to seniors who will further their education in the field of social services, psychology, behavioral health or a related field. Applications may be obtained at the high schools; the Rumford Group Homes administrative offices, 160 Lincoln Ave.; or visit www.rumfordgrouphomes.org. Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 2.
