Garden workshop

LISBON FALLS – A gardening workshop, “Using Native Plants in Your Landscape,” will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension of Androscoggin-Sagadahoc Counties, 24 Main St.

Roger Roberge of Provencher Landscaping in Lewiston will discuss the benefits of using native plants in landscape.

Registration fee is $10. Call 353-5550 to register. The workshop is open to all residents.

Any person with a disability who needs accommodations for the program should contact Tori Jackson to discuss their needs at least 10 days in advance.

Bottle drive

TURNER – The Turner Athletic Association will hold its annual bottle drive on Saturday, May 3.

Athletes will visit homes in the Turner area to pick up returnable bottles. The bottles will be brought to Schrepp’s Bottle Redemption. All the proceeds will be added to the TAA fund in order to buy new equipment and work on fields for all the sports.

To donate bottles ahead of time, drop them off at Schrepp’s and let them know it is a TAA donation.

Plant sale

BOWDOIN – The second annual plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the West Bowdoin Baptist Church, 54 West Road.

There will be mostly perennials, but annuals, herbs, houseplants and vegetables will be available as well. A bake sale and hot dogs will be available.

Donations of plants will be accepted. All proceeds go to the West Bowdoin Baptist Church Women’s Mission Circle.

Grange speaker

AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Grange. The program will be presented by Tahlia Hope Chamberlain, executive director of the Literacy program. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Seniors meal

SABATTUS – The Sabattus Seniors will have a shepherd’s pie meal on Thursday, May 1, at Maxwell Hall. Those wishing to sign up should call Doris at 784-7950. A meeting and bingo will be held after the meal.

Earlier this month 89 attended the meatloaf lunch. Trips planned to Foxwoods include June 10, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9; July 15, Hollywood Slots; Sept. 22 to 25, Atlantic City. For more information, call Jean Doyon at 784-5264.

Seniors tickets

AUBURN – Dinner tickets for the Golden Age Seniors Tuesday, May 13, meal at the Chickadee in Lewiston must be paid for prior to the meal. There will be no tickets sold at the restaurant. Paula will be at the Sacred Heart Church Hall from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, for those who have not paid for their tickets. Those who cannot make that date should call Paula at 576-4082 and make other arrangements.

Drivers’ course

AUBURN – An AARP driver safety course for drivers age 50 and older will be presented from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, May 20 and 22, at Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road. Participants must attend both sessions to complete the course.

The registration fee is $10 a person and advance registration is required. To register, phone Mark Prevost at 784-2900. Class size is limited and registrations will be accepted only as long as space is still available.

AARP has designated May as “AARP Driver Safety Program Month,” featuring a special Bring-a-Friend promotion. An AARP member and a friend can attend the safety course together for $10. Both will receive certificates upon successful completion.

Insurance companies in Maine are required to give discounts to drivers age 55 and older who complete the course. More information may be found at home.earthlink.net/~drivesafe-me.

Spirituality talks

AUBURN – An informal discussion group on spirituality for the purpose of helping each other better understand the nature of a higher power or God will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in Edward Little High School Room 107. For more information, call Lou at 225-2360.
