SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) – The Maine real estate market remained cool in March, with home sales down 28 percent and prices down more than 3 percent.

According to the Maine Association of Realtors, 650 homes changed hands in March, down from 908 homes in March of 2007. The median sales price was $187,250, down from $193,750.

The National Association of Realtors reported that sales of single-family homes nationwide were down 18 percent in March, with the median sales prices falling more than 8 percent.

Sharon Millett of Coldwell Banker Millett Realty in Auburn says now that winter is over, she is seeing an increase in the number of home buyers who are active in the market.
