EASTBROOK (AP) – As an investigation continues into Saturday’s fatal fire, state police say a third person was spending the night at the local fire chief’s mobile home when it went up in flames.

The fire critically injured the chief, Rick McNeil, who is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland, and killed his 13-year-old son Tommy.

“There were three people in the trailer the night of the fire,” said Sgt. Troy Gardiner of the Maine State Police.

Police say they have interviewed the woman but declined to identify her or indicate whether she might know how the fire started, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Gardiner said the woman was not injured in the blaze.
