TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) – New York state police say a Thruway supervisor at a Hudson River bridge has helped rescue another would-be suicide jumper.
It’s the third time since July that Ernie Feeney has prevented a suicide attempt on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
He says Wednesday morning’s rescue gave him a great feeling.
A 40-year-old man drove halfway across the bridge, then got out of his car and approached the railing. Police say Feeney and bridge electrician Eddie Vasquez distracted the man with conversation and got close enough to wrestle him to the ground.
Police have taken the man to a hospital.
Feeney says he also failed once to hold onto a jumper.
