While I don’t plan to debate everyone with an opposing view about motorcycle noise, I had to chuckle when I read Toby Milliken’s letter (April 21).
I don’t know if he’s ever heard a Honda 900 RR with a Yosh pipe, or a Kawsaki ZX-10R with a Muzzy full race set up. If he did, I think his professional opinion of “much much louder” would fall upon deaf ears (no pun intended)!
As I said in my earlier letter, there are too many loud bikes period, and singling out Harley-Davidsons is wrong! The problem is there are more than a few people who think drag pipes are cool. I fully agree that they are extremely obnoxious, and I have to wonder why any person of sound mind would want to have them on their bike.
As an inspection mechanic for motorcycles, I see every make and model: metric, Italian, British, American, etc. And with the right exhaust, or should I say the wrong exhaust, they all make noise.
Some are worse than others, but the annoyance factor is still the same.
