POLAND – Ben Piper clubbed a two-run home run in Poland’s seven-run second inning to lead the Knights to a 15-8 triumph over Fryeburg in WMC baseball action Friday.
The Raiders (1-2) struck first as Dylan Anderson cracked a two-run double during a four-run first inning. Ben Broyer added two runs and two RBIs for Fryeburg.
Joe Murphy took the mound in the fourth inning for the Knights (2-0) to quell the storm, and proceeded to fan six batters over two and two-thirds innings. Nick Douglass and Casey Roy contributed three hits apiece for Poland.
Cony 9, Lewiston 3
LEWISTON – Greg O’Neil drove in the game-winning run with a single in the sixth inning to lift Cony to 9-3 KVAC baseball win over Lewiston.
O’Neil, T.J. Vallee and Ray Cotnoir each had a pair of hits for the Rams (3-0), with Cotnoir and Eric Lee picking up doubles.
Cony pitching held the Blue Devils (1-2) to just four hits, but the home team stuck around in a tie game through five innings behind pitchers Josh Leino and Jeff Keene. Lee picked up the win for Cony.
Oxford Hills 13, Morse 5
BATH – Sophomore catcher Matt Verrier and senior third baseman Justin Frechette issued three RBIs’ each as Oxford Hills cruised to a 13-5 victory over Morse in KVAC baseball action Friday.
The Vikings (1-2) grabbed a 9-0 lead before Carl Nygaard smashed a bases loaded double for the Shipbuilders (0-3) in the bottom of the third inning to shrink the deficit by three.
Oxford Hills added another four runs in the fifth inning, and Morse could only collect a single widget in each of the fifth and seventh innings before sliding below the waves.
Edward Little 9, Leavitt 0
TURNER – Cody Goddard teamed up with two relievers to limit Leavitt to three hits to lead Edward Little to a 9-0 victory Friday.
The Red Eddies (3-0) used timely hitting and speed on the bases to score in virtually every inning. David Muise led the way with three hits, while Adam Lutz, Shane Ciriello and Corey Larue had two hits apiece.
David Cleere took the loss for Leavitt (0-3).
Jay 8, Mt. Abram 0
JAY – Austin Clark had four superb innings on the mound, allowing just one hit and fanning seven as Jay ran away with an 8-0 win over Mt. Abram in MVC baseball action Friday.
Nick Bourassa collected three of the Tigers’ (1-1) nine hits, while posting a pair of RBIs in the winning effort.
Andrew Cummings had two of the Roadrunner’s (0-1) three hits in the game.
Lacrosse
Oak Hill 10, Gardiner 6
WALES – Nick Brown scored five goals and Tyler Pomerleau dropped in three and earned three assists as Oak Hill shook off Gardiner, 10-6, in boys’ lacrosse Friday.
The undefeated Raiders (2-0) built a 10-3 lead after three quarters. Zack Provost and Jake Girard each scored a goal for Oak Hill. Tyler Michaud and Matt Averill led the defensive effort for the Raiders, and goalie Don Fontaine got the win, making 14 saves.
Kory Pinkham, Pat Beaulieu, Jason LeDoux, Bobby Joanson, Jordan Grant and Jake Acheson each scored a goal for the Tigers (0-2).
Lewiston 10, Mt. Ararat 4
LEWISTON – Ben Landry netted three goals and two assists to lead Lewiston in a 10-4 victory over Mt. Ararat.
The Blue Devils (2-0) trailed 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, then came back with four unanswered tallies in the second and never looked back. Jon Roy added two goals and two assists for the Blue Devils while Nate Rivet contributed with a pair of goals and Mason Giroux registered two helpers. Kyle Dussault and Alex Pare combined for the win in net.
Nick Dempsey led the Eagles (1-1) with two goals.
