AUBURN – Road work will begin again next week in the Auburn Mall area along Turner Street and Mount Auburn Avenue.
After several days of preparation, paving will begin May 9. The work is scheduled to end by June 15, said Gary Johnson, Auburn’s assistant city engineer.
“Right now, they’re adjusting manholes and catch basins, bringing them up and getting them ready for the final coat of asphalt,” he said. “When they get started, it should take them a week to 10 days to get the machine paving done, depending on the weather.”
The work will complete the mall-area road work that began last summer with the construction of two Turner Street roundabouts on either side of Mount Auburn Avenue. Crews also widened both streets and added medians and traffic islands along Mount Auburn Avenue and sidewalks throughout the area.
Johnson said the work will begin at 6 a.m. Friday, May 9, on Mount Auburn Avenue between Turner and Center streets.
“They’ll do the main intersection first, and then move to the two roundabouts,” he said. Work will be scheduled overnight that weekend, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. on May 11 and 12. Traffic will be detoured around the work, possibly through area parking lots, he said.
Landscaping along the road is scheduled to begin later in the same week and should continue through the summer.
