Dear Sun Spots: In the April 10 issue of the Sun Journal there was a request regarding soft food for a cat. The reader was given a reply that suggested using chicken broth to soften dry food. Most chicken broth contains onions which can be toxic to felines.

Be very careful when feeding processed human food to a cat as a large majority of this contains either onions or garlic. Even baby food, which contains onions, can cause death to a cat in as little as two weeks.

A lot more on this subject can be found on the Internet if you search for “feline kidney disease.” – No Name, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: Soon to be our new home, we’re searching for some historical information on what we believe is known as the old Jordan School. This “Little Red Schoolhouse” looking building is said to have once served as a one-room schoolhouse for the neighborhood. It’s located at the corner of Jordan School and Pownal Roads. If possible, we’d like to make sure we can keep the building as historically and structurally as faithful to its original purpose. But where do we begin to find out the appropriate information? We look forward to any information. E-mail at joseph455@verizon.net. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: According to Michael Lord, executive secretary of the Androscoggin Historical Society, there is mention of the Jordan School in the 1891 county history as well as probably in some old maps. He also suggests checking with the Auburn School Department or the Auburn Public Library for more information.
