Blacksmiths to meet

WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Wilton Historical Society. The program will be a continuation of the demonstration on the tempering and heat treating of steel, as well as a demonstration on a decorative eye hook.

The open forge night will be Tuesday, May 13. Visitors are welcome. For more information, call Bill Reid at 778-2325.

Support meeting

FARMINGTON – The Franklin Memorial Hospital Bereaved Parent Support Group that usually meets the first Thursday of the month will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the Fly Rod Crosby Room. For more information, contact Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, at 778-5911.

ATV safety course

JAY – The Jay Police Department will sponsor a free ATV safety course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Jay Community Building. Children ages 10 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees must attend the full day of training to receive their certificate.

Instructors will be Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier and Officer Stephen Wilkinson of the Jay Police Department.

Anyone wishing to attend the class must register in advance by calling the Jay Police Department at 897-6766 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The class is limited to 15 students.

Free luncheon

FARMINGTON – The Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10. The menu will include citrus chicken, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, rolls, butter and lemon bars.

Delivery service will be available in the Farmington area. Call the church office at 778-0424 during the week or the church kitchen at 778-4438 on the morning of the luncheon for delivery.

Carrier food drive

FARMINGTON – For the 16th year the Farmington Post Office and the mail carriers will participate in the annual Letter Carrier Food Drive on Saturday, May 10.

Those wishing are asked to leave nonperishable items in or near a mailbox for the carrier to pick up.

There will also be a food drop off in the lobby of the post office from Wednesday, May 7, to Saturday, May 10, for anyone wanting to make their donation there.

The food will be given to a local food bank where the need this year is a greater than ever.

Farm energy audit

SKOWHEGAN – A free farm energy audit workshop will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Grassland Farm.

Presenter will be AJ Ballard, energy auditor from Efficiency Maine. He will give a demonstration of energy savings on a working farm. There will be information on energy audits and cash incentives and resources for equipment upgrades for energy conservation.
