• The possibility that the thieves who made off with $14.70 in change from the Rotary Amoco Station Wednesday night were scared away before they could complete their work, was advanced last night by Auburn Police Lt. Leslie F. Stewart. Stewart also stated his opinion that the same robbers who jimmied open the two vending machines at the Auburn service station were responsible for the $250 safe theft the same night at Sam’s Esso Service Center at 534 Main St., Lewiston. The Auburn officer said the arrival of Norman Thibault, the station employee who discovered the Auburn break, may have scared off the thieves. A safe in the front office of the Auburn gas station, containing more than $200 in cash, was untouched. Lt. Stewart said last night that two possible suspects were questioned yesterday in connection with the Auburn break and that the investigation is continuing.
