NEW GLOUCESTER – The landmark Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, will open for the 2008 season on Friday, May 23. Both the Shaker Museum and the Shaker Store will open that day at 10 a.m. for a season that will extend through Columbus Day, Oct. 13.

There will be a special exhibit, “The Human and the Eternal: Shaker Art in its Many Forms,” part of the 2008 Maine Folk Art Trail.

Early events include:

Saturday, May 24, floorcloth workshop and nature hikes.

Tuesday, June 3, herb garden internships begin.

Wednesday and Saturday, June 4 and 7, designing an herbal theme garden workshops.

Wednesday and Saturday, June 11 and 14, herbal kitchen garden workshops.

Saturday, June 21, introduction to wood workshop, chair caning and nature hikes.

Wednesday through Saturday, June 25 to 28, Maine Festival of American Music.
