Dear Sun Spots: With reference to a recent inquiry in Sun Spots from a Tom in Avon, Maine, pertaining to the Avon Airport where Charles Lindbergh landed. When I was in Phillips High School I recall his landing at the then named Raymond Airport in Avon. This would have been 1946, 1947 or 1948. He spent one night at the Chandler Rooming House. I am not sure if this is the correct name of where he stayed. I do recall that our class went to the home and was shown the register with his signature. It is my understanding that the register is at the Phillips Historical Society. – Evelyn Norton, Kingfield.

Dear Sun Spots: The Caleb Group is a nonprofit agency that provides affordable housing in Lewiston. In 2004, several residents created a community, organic vegetable garden. Because this handful of residents is elderly or disabled, they are asking for help in the form of either donations or volunteer time.

Specifically, they need repairs to fence, gate and raised beds; wood for new raised beds; hoses; repair to shed or new shed; shrubs that can tolerate shade; new compost bin; volunteers to help spread compost; and a Havahart trap for our furry friends.

Anything that anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Please call Donna at 783-9800. Thank you! – Chris Havenstein, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: Thank you so much for this wonderful resource for people to go to for answers to questions they just could not find anywhere else. Your service is invaluable.

I am trying to find out about the status of a business called The Classy Lady, that used to be located in Lewiston up by CMMC on Main Street. They took nice recycled clothing and used it to help women trying to get back into the work force. When I went to drop off some clothing to them the other day they were no longer there and I would like to know if they have just moved or are closed permanently. They were providing another very helpful service to the community. Thank you for your help in this. – Karen, South Paris.

Answer:
Sun Spots is sorry to report that the Classy Lady Boutique closed on Jan. 21 and has not relocated. According to a release from the board of directors that ran in the Jan. 12 edition of the Sun Journal, “our retail sales do not support our expenses and we must close.” The boutique opened in October 2004 and offered professional clothing at thrift-store prices in addition to free mentoring services for women returning to the work force.
