Film to be shown

GREENWOOD – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at the historical building at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Following the meeting Blaine Mills will show a movie, “The Red Paint People.” Everyone is welcome.

Whitman speaker

WOODSTOCK – Jim Sysko will be the guest speaker at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Whitman Memorial Library. He was the project manager for “Olympia Snowwoman,” and he will talk about various projects in the field of engineering, including a project in Belize, South America. The free program is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Library meeting

WATERFORD – The Waterford Library Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the library. Reports on the activities of the past year will be presented and trustees will be elected.

The program will include a brief presentation by Nancy Marcotte, vice president of the library board of trustees, on Portland architect John Calvin Stevens, who with his son, John Howard Stevens, designed the historic library building. All Waterford residents are invited.

AARP to install

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will meet Monday, May 12, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. A chicken salad luncheon will be served at noon. Cost is $6.50, and reservations are required by calling Thelma at 743-6124 by noon Friday, May 9.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. with installation of officers. Greg Cross, associate director of community outreach, AARP Portland, Maine State Office, will conduct the installation.

Afterward, Sayward Lamb will speak about 60 years of adventures in hunting and fishing and will show some of his woodcarvings. Lamb is the author of “Deer Tales and Other Tails” Guests are welcome.

Indoor yard sale

WATERFORD – The first indoor yard sale of the season will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in the Wilkins Community House basement at the foot of Plummer Hill Road next door to the church.

There will be new items, household items, books, toys and games, crafts and “what-nots.” Proceeds will benefit the church and the Wilkins House improvement fund. For more information, call Karen at 583-2320.

Kids fishing day

GORHAM, N.H. – The 17th annual Kids Free Fishing Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 7, at Wildcat Pond, Route 16, for kids age 15 and younger.

There will be fishing, a casting contest, learning stations and prizes. Kids should bring an adult and fishing gear. There will be free fishing for everyone in the afternoon.

‘Alpha Course’

OXFORD – A free “Alpha Course,” a practical introduction to Christianity, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, at His Place Teen Center, 254 Webber Brook Road. It is not affiliated with a particular church.

Plant sale set

NORWAY – A Mother’s Day plant and perennial sale will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Terre Porter’s parking lot. Proceeds will support His Place Teen Center.

Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met April 25 at the Fare Share Building, Main Street, when a four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Kathy and Pete Cummings; second, Pat Quinn and Marjorie Street; third, Eleanor Griffin and Dick Allen; first in Flight B, Bev Pelletier and Bev Dolan; second, Arlen Riss and Bob Clifford.

The club met May 2 for a four-table Howell movement with the following results:

First in Flight A, Richard Balian and Pete Cummings; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; first in Flight B, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; second, Bev Pelletier and Bev Dolan.
