LEWISTON – A Sunday night fire has left a Lewiston couple temporarily homeless.

At about 9 p.m. Sunday, firefighters from Lewiston and Lisbon were called to the home of Gary and Denise Soucy on Dyer Road.

Investigator Peter Morrell of the Lewiston Fire Department said it appeared to start as a chimney fire that spread to the rest of the house. He said the house is repairable, but that an extensive amount of electrical work needs to be done.

Morrell said the fire took about an hour to put out. “It was pretty stubborn – the location of it was hard to get to.”

Damage to the house was estimated at $25,000 to $35,000.
