Some people think that theatre is all fun and games, but it’s not! Theatre takes a lot of effort, skills, and plain old talent (trust me I should know) Recently I was in two plays at the same time! Now I’m only in one play on account that the other performance is over, but that’s beside the point anyways. As I was saying, theatre takes a lot of effort! For example, say your production is at a building that happens to be a little distance from your house; you have to drive all the way there for rehearsal almost every night. That’s what I had to do when I was in the play “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Another reason, you don’t get to do the things you usually do. I had to miss an important school concert, a dance (I love to dance), and I missed just kicking back and hanging out with friends. I was usually tired the next day because our rehearsal ended so late. I remember having to change my schedule and so did my mom since she had to drive me to play practice. When I say you need skills for theatre, it means you need to know how to project your voice, learn your lines, pay attention and know your quotes, and stay in character. Ahhh, talent! A very important thing. Talent, for theatre involves dancing, singing, and actually being able to act. Others believe (and I’m not implying you) that acting is just knowing your lines and acting like someone who isn’t yourself. Well guess what? THEY’RE WRONG! Acting is something that comes from your heart and soul! You’re not just “acting” like someone else, you’re BEING someone else. You need to make the audience believe that your character is the real you! You are the character! This is what theatre is all about.
