FARMINGTON – A Madrid Township man asked Franklin County commissioners to fix a turnaround on Buzzell Road to provide more room to pile snow.
Michael Greifendorf said when the county’s contractor plows the snow into the turnaround it limits the room he needs to work on his property.
He asked that when the road is widened this year, the turnaround be lengthened about 90 feet, even though it is just outside the county road jurisdiction.
That would provide enough room for snow to be piled and for plow trucks to maneuver and not interfere with his work, he said.
Unorganized Territory Road Commissioner Jerry Haines said the county would like to extend the turnaround but it’s out of the county’s road limits.
It could be done if he gives permission to do it, Haines said. It’s nice to be able to push the snow back, he added.
If Greifendorf gives the county an easement over his property, it could be done, Commissioner Gary McGrane of Jay said.
Greifendorf said he would fill out the paperwork to give the county the easement.
Haines plans to go out and measure how long the easement would need to be before the easement paperwork is drafted and presented to commissioners to consider at a future meeting.
In other business, commissioners awarded the contract for audits for the county and the unorganized territory to the only bidder.
Treasurer Karen Robinson said she sent out requests for proposals to six certified public accountants and received only one back from HRH Smith & Co., the current auditor.
The company’s bid for the county audit is not to exceed $5,500 and the unorganized territory audit is not to exceed $1,200.
The contract is renewable for a five-year period, Robinson said.
Commissioners also voted to increase the hourly wage of a temporary part-time employee from $14 to $15. Costs pertaining to the person working on a special project for the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency is paid through a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
Robinson said county EMA Director Tim Hardy had included the wage increase in the grant, which the county has been awarded.
Commissioner Fred Hardy of New Sharon, no relation to Tim Hardy, said that he would go along with it as long as the grant covers all costs for the position.
The panel also approved a 30-day extension of a temporary full-time corrections officer position held by Scott Nile.
