As all of you probably know, the Monmouth Mustangs went to the Civic Center and came on to play Madison in the Championship game. Throughout the season I have always admired Monmouth as a team.
Whenever Monmouth was going to play Madison or any other team at the Civic Center, you would always see my friends and I have our faces painted of our favorite player ( mine was always Jenn!!). The reason why we had them painted was because we always admired and loved the player; we also want to grow up to be just like them.
The third game at the Civic Center was against Hall-Dale. Hall-Dale has a very good ball club, and most of thrir players are coming back next year!
At the beginning of the game Monmouth was up by at least 10 or 12 points. But you know Hall-Dale, they never give up. So the next thing you know Monmouth was only up by 5 or 6 points. At the end of the game with about 2:51 left, Monmouth was up by at least 12 or 13 points. Finally the game was over!
Every single player on Monmouth and Hall-Dale played well and put all of their effort into this game. So Hall-Dale- good job and hope to see you next year.
The fourth game at the Civic Center was against Wayneflete. Wayneflete has some pretty good players on theirteam. The one thing I love about Wayneflete is that they never back down.
At the beginning of the first quarter I believe Wayneflete was up by about 4 or 5 points, but Monmouth kept on fighting for the ball and they finally caught up and were ahead by 4 points. At the end of the game there was about 2:12 left in the game and Monmouth was up by about 5 or 6 points. Finally Monmouth won by at least 3 points.
Wayneflete is a very aggressive team and Monmouth had to work pretty hard to beat them and to not foul.
The Championship game was against our rival team, Madison. Madison has such a good ball club that you have to work your hardest or they will break you down all day long. In the first quarter, Monmouth was about 10 or 13 points down from tying the game. When third quarter came, Monmouth had to work so hard or else they would be in trouble because by the time halftime is over Madison comes out even harder than they were in the first half. So finally the fourth quarter with about 1:51 left in the game Monmouth was down by about 6 or 7 points. What helped Monmouth was the drained three by Katie Woodman. So now Monmouth was down by about 3 points with 30 seconds left in the game. Monmouth had to hit a three to tie the game up or they would lose. So Jenn Lola came up the court and tried to hit the three but it didn’t go in. Monmouth has very good post players on their team. So Alyssa Morin jumps to get the ball, gets the rebound, passes it out to Katie Woodman. Katie jumps for the three, goes in, then right back out. There were only about 3.4 seconds left in the game when Madison gets the ball and holds it until they hear that loud buzzer go off so they can go wild because they have won.
Finally the game was over and Monmouth had lost by 3 points. It was a very good game. Monmouth had played their hardest and that’s what they have to do if they play against that tough team Madison.
Even though Monmouth lost the Championship game, they will always be my favorite team. I admire them and hope to be the team that they are now. I will miss the Seniors so so much, but there is still another season left for the Juniors now, Sophomores now, and you can’t forget about the Freshmen!
