Baskets sale

NORWAY – A sale of hanging baskets will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 10, at the Second Congregational Church, 205 Main St. The public is invited to purchase baskets of fresh flowers in time for Mother’s Day, which is Sunday. Proceeds benefit the church’s general fund.

The Second Congregational Church is a member of the United Church of Christ. Worship and church school is every Sunday at 10 a.m. For more information call the church office between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Thursday, 743-2290.

Benefit auction

PARIS – A benefit ticket auction will be held Saturday, May 10, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. Doors open at 1 and the auction begins at 3 p.m. There will be over 300 items. Proceeds benefit the funeral expenses of David O’Neil. Cost for 25 tickets is $5. There will be a dollar table, 50/50 and baked goods will be available. Library programs

PARIS – The Paris Public Library’s Children’s Room is hosting two programs for homeschoolers on Tuesdays, May 13 and 27.

Social studies issues will be introduced, using sophisticated picture books, often referred to as “crossover books,” written for grades four and up. Sophisticated picture books are “stories” that use limited text but visually rich illustrations to approach complex concepts. The sessions are open to the general public as well as homeschoolers and their parents.

At 2:30 p.m. May 13, the Japanese Internment in California during World War II will be explored using “So Far from the Sea” by Eve Bunting.

At 2:30 p.m. May 27 slavery will be the issue, using “Minty: a Story of the Young Harriet Tubman” by Alan Schroder and Jerry Pinkney.
