FARMINGTON – Franklin Community Health Network’s second annual Champions for Healthcare Basketball Tournament took place last month at Dearborn Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington.

Seven teams competed in the round-robin tournament, which raised more than $14,000 toward the purchase of equipment for the new Mobile Health Unit, as well as funds to launch Evergreen Behavioral Service’s (EBS) new Child Development Center.

The overall winner of the tournament was the Margarita’s Team from Augusta. Major sponsors included RBC Dain Rauscher, the Granite Group, Hight Chevrolet, Wal-Mart, Ranor, the Cote Corporation, Franklin Savings Bank, Deblois Electric, Hahnel Brothers, Ernest Stables, Farmington Ford, Poland Spring, Western Maine Insurance and Androscoggin Bank.

The Mobile Health Unit is a key ambassador for the Healthy Community Coalition in providing preventive outreach and health education. Evergreen’s Child Development Center will provide therapeutic evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents with developmental disorders including autism, Asperger’s Disorder, ADHD, and other developmental and behavioral problems.

Slated to open in August, 2008, the Center will be one of only three such programs in Maine. For additional information, contact Maureen Goudreau at 779-2471.
