FARMINGTON – The Maine Forest Service is offering a training session on the use of Global Positioning Systems for landowners and outdoor enthusiasts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28.

The event is being sponsored by the Upper Kennebec Branch, Small Landowners Association of Maine, and hosted by Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District. The location of the class will be announced at the time of sign-up. Registration deadline is Friday, May 23.

The training will teach the basics of how GPS works as well as uses for the logger and “in the field” training application of the GPS unit. The training will be led by Patty Cormier of the Maine Forest Service.

The Maine Forest Service has 25 GPS units that participants will use for the training, and the class is limited to 25. Cost of the training is $15.

To register, send a check or drop in to the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District, 107 Park St. There are already 10 pre-registered from overflow from the May 22 class.
