OTISFIELD – A 5-year-old boy who wandered off into the woods after his dog on Thursday afternoon, was found an hour later by a firefighter and returned to his mother, police said.

Lucas Sanborn, who lives on Bolsters Mills Road, was unharmed, Oxford County Sheriff’s Cpl. Brian Landis said by phone on Friday in Paris.

“Everything came out OK,” Landis said. “He ran after his small dog into the woods and popped out about a mile away on Bolsters Mills Road. While I was responding, I came upon the firefighter who made contact with the child.”

Landis said the boy’s mother, Darcia Sanborn, reported her child as missing a few minutes after 4 p.m. “As soon as we got the call, we started everybody on the search, including the Warden Service and the state police, who brought in a tracking dog. The Otisfield Fire Department did an excellent job,” Landis added.
