NORWAY – In celebration of Children’s Book Week, May 12 to 18, the Norway Memorial Library Children’s Department will welcome families to a presentation by Ron Laing, author of “An African Adventure,” a photographic memoir of his travels in East Africa, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14.

Laing and his wife traveled to Kenya in 2005 on a safari and mission trip. While there, Laing captured on film the land, animals and nomadic cattle-keeping people of the Maasai Mara. He will show slides from his book, accompanied by Kenyan music.

An accomplished photographer with more than 30 years of experience, Laing has received many awards for his work. He is a member of the Photographic Society of America and has been awarded the society’s associate fellowship for his initiations to New England camera clubs, his exhibition record and his judging, teaching and program services for photographers and society.

Laing taught photography at Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Mass., for 12 years. He now lives in Oxford and is a member of the Portland Camera Club.

Copies of “An African Adventure” will be available for purchase and Laing will sign them. All proceeds from the book will be donated to the Kenya Children’s Uniform Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides school uniforms for children who otherwise would not receive an education. Refreshments will be served.

For more information or to register, call the Children’s Department at 743-5308.
