MONMOUTH – The Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out 2008 for Monmouth Academy students was held recently at the Roadside Bakery and Cafe on Main Street.
Merissa Beaulieu placed first with her speech, “Genocide in Darfur.” She received a $50 cash award and trophy. Garrison Beck was second with his speech on “Global Warming.” He won a $40 cash award and trophy. Kerstin Grenier placed third with her speech, “Drag Racing.” She received a $30 cash award and trophy.
The students were judged on delivery of speech, material in speech and response to questions. Judging the contest were Lion Amber McCabe, Mrs. Fred Acklye and Lion Archie Wing.
Asking questions were Lions Bill Mann and Phillip Thibodeau.
Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were each presented with Lions Club International pens in appreciation.
