Lewiston High School is well represented atop the seedings for the upcoming MPA singles tennis championships.
Lewiston’s Chantalle Lavertu is the No. 1 seed in East Region III, which starts play Saturday at Buker School in Augusta. Mike Butler is in the region’s No. 2 seed on the boys’ side, behind Mike Hill of Mt. Ararat.
The committee placed Lewiston’s No. 2 on the boys’ side, Ben McDonough, in the bracket with the No. 7 seed from Waterville, and the Blue Devils’ No. 3 Matt Letourneau will see Mt. Blue’s Sean Paul and, if he advances, Brunswick’s Mats Haaland in his first two matches.
Edward Little also has three players in the draw. The Eddies will send Tyler Babb, Mike St. Denis and Dan Gleason to Augusta. Babb drew a tough road, though. If he advances past the first round, he faces Hill.
Matt St. John of Mt. Blue will see Derek Veilleux of Winslow in Round 1.
On the girls’ side, twins Julia and Audrey Bergeron will join Lavertu from Lewiston. Julia is seeded sixth, while Audrey will face Kristin Marks of Gardiner in Round 1. Should she advance, next up would be No. 2 seed Erika Blauth of Camden Hills.
Mt. Blue and Edward Little are sending three girls each to Augusta, too. The Eddies will send Anna Oswald, Amanda Bellefleur and Lindsey Rogers, while the Cougars’ Marina Iida, Kelly Greene and Kelsey Frechette will represent the Farmington school.
Tournament play begins Saturday at four sites across the state.
