NORWAY – It is said that a Sensei (teacher) is made from 1 of every 10,000 students who train in the martial arts. Liesha Petrovich, co-founder of Maine Kyokushin Karate, beat those odds and was recently promoted to the rank of Sandan (third degree black belt) and now has earned the title of Sensei.

Liesha is the second student of her husband, Marty, to be promoted to the rank of Sensei. Liesha began her training in Kyokushin with Marty in 1994 and runs the very popular Little Ninjas programs for children 3-5 years old and 6-7 years old.

“The Little Ninjas are the future of the martial arts. Some of the top students in Marty’s program have come from my program,” Liesha Petrovich said. “Some of the first Little Ninjas will start to be promoted to black belt in June of this year, which is a major accomplishment.”

Maine Kyokushin Karate has opened its second location in Lewiston at Fitness World, 770 Main Street in Lewiston. Morning and evening classes will be offered at the Fitness World dojo. For more information on classes in Norway or Lewiston, contact Marty Petrovich at 743-8801.
