LEWISTON – Children who turn 4 between Oct. 16, 2007 and Oct. 15, 2008, may be eligible for the pre-kindergarten program at Longley or Farwell schools.

Again this fall, the Lewiston School Department will collaborate with Head Start and Child Development Services to provide a half-day pre-kindergarten program, which will run for four days a week, Monday through Thursday.

The program at Longley will consist of two half-day sessions and will serve 28 students from the Longley School district. Ten of those will be selected by Head Start. The remaining 14 will be determined by lottery.

Farwell will have four half-day sessions and will serve 56 students. Head Start and Child Development Services will each select eight students. The remaining students will be selected by lottery.

Fifteen students will be selected from the Farwell district, four from the Martel School district, six from the McMahon district, 11 from the Montello district and four from the Pettingill district. A lottery will be used to determine a waiting list at each school.

Parent informational meetings will be held on Tuesday, May 20. The Longley meeting will take place at 2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The Farwell meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the school.

Student registration will take place on May 27, 28, 29 and 30. At that time, parents may register their child at the school district in which they reside. Parents will need to call the schools to make an appointment. Deadline to register is May 30.

When they go to the school to register, they do not need to bring their child, but they will need a copy of the birth certificate (not the hospital record) and the medical history and immunization record.

The lottery drawings will take place on Monday, June 9, and will be open to the public. The Longley lottery will be at 2 p.m. in the cafeteria and the Farwell drawing will be at 4 p.m. in that school cafeteria. Parents of selected students will be notified by Friday, June 16.
