Society program

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in the Municipal Building auditorium, Congress Street. The program will be on “What-zit,” when each member brings an article to stump the others.

The program had been scheduled earlier in the year but a storm forced cancellation of the meeting. President Len Greaney hopes to introduce the recipient of the college Jane Holt deFrees Scholarship.

The meeting is open to anyone interested. Plans will be made for the yard sale to be held Saturday, June 7, at the Lufkin School Museum, Rumford Center. At that time, the museum will also be open to the public.

Class to meet

MEXICO – Stephens High School Class of 1949 will meet for luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Covered Wagon.

Cancer program

RUMFORD – A patient program on cancer treatment for older adults, “Getting the Best Cancer Care at Any Age,” with Lisa Hodgkins, RN, will be presented from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at 209 Lincoln Ave.

The event is being sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with Rumford Hospital and the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center.

Final storytime

RUMFORD – The final preschool storytime for this school year will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Rumford Public Library. The theme will be “Picnics.”

Following the storytime participants will go outside for a picnic in the library park, so bring a lunch and a picnic blanket. If it rains, it will be in the public room. All area children ages 2 to 5 are welcome. Storytime will resume in the fall.
